Cyprus has been named the top property investment spot in 2009 in a recent survey - the second consecutive year the Mediterranean island has claimed the award.
The survey of 500 people, conducted by Jet-to-Let magazine, reflected the current economic situation, with Spain dropping a few places on the list and Germany dropping out of the top ten altogether. Other traditional favourites France and the USA both fared well, ranking at number two and three respectively.
Cyprus has long been a favourite destination for British property investors – the island has a favourable climate, good infrastructure and the help of the Cypriot government, which has spent millions on initiatives to entice property buyers.
Western Cyprus is particularly enticing for property investors at present, as it has the advantage of being unspoilt and beautiful, and yet home to stunning holiday properties that have easy access to the Akamas Peninsula National Park - an important area for the breeding of loggerhead turtles.
The Jet-to-Let survey also recognised that buyers were keen to start investing again in the future, with over 36 per cent of investors saying they would like to invest in a property overseas in the next 12 months and 27 per cent of the people surveyed saying they would consider investing in one in the next six months. |
